Mark Ellis, Technical
Support Officer at Wakefield MDC, is
part of a central Technical Support Team
with responsibility for network administration.
When he joined the Authority in 2002,
Windows Performance Monitor was used
to assess the performance of the Windows
servers running central applications
such as SQL Server and Exchange 2000. “Windows
Performance Monitor has very limited functionality.
We wanted to be able to monitor the effect
of rolling out Exchange 2000 on performance
and whilst I knew that Metron’s Athene
had been used on a number of our Unix systems,
I was hopeful that we could also introduce
it into the Windows environment.”
Four members of
the Technical Support Team attended a
week-long training course, delivered
by Metron, for Windows and Unix systems. “The
training was intense and tailored specifically
to our needs. We learnt so much and were
keen to implement the product and start
using it to its full potential.”
Once fully implemented
within Technical Services, Athene will
be monitoring five Unix and eighteen
Windows NT systems using the Athene
APR (automatic performance reporting)
to provide access to reports online.
The automatic reporting functionality
and the ability to look back over performance
history, as well as carry out trend
analysis, is of particular importance
to Wakefield MDC. |
Mark
Ellis added: “We are also impressed with
Metron’s ActionLine support services.
They have been very supportive, ‘hand-holding’
us through a procedure and then checking
back a week later to see whether there was
anything else they could help with. Metron’s
ActionLine is one of the best support services
we have experienced.”
