Strategic projects require a detailed scoping stage and typically incorporate an initial strategic review of the current procedures and identification of objectives for future processes. As such, it is essentially a longer term project, such as to implement or improve capacity management as a whole and typically makes use of agreed Codes of Good Practice such as ITIL. The later stages depend on the decisions made in the initial review, but typically include a major input towards the architecture adopted and significant input to the implementation and optimization of procedures. These projects last so many weeks, maybe a month or two over a period of a quarter or two. For this investment of say 25 – 50 consultancy days, a site can establish or improve its capacity management processes and develop the skills of its own team to take it forward.
For the local capacity management team to be successful, it must form an integral part of the overall business process. The team will require regular inputs from a number of other functional areas. It will need to service urgent management requests for information relating to the ability of the current and planned infrastructure to accommodate new workloads. Metron’s consultants will work with the local team manager to define and agree a business process model for the capacity management team.
This project is typically defined as the requirement to enhance the processes for effective ITIL Capacity Management. This will include liaison with other functions such as Development, QA, Service Level Planning, Network and Business Planning. Process outlines, a data model for capacity management and Data Flow Diagrams will be generated.
The list of ITIL Capacity Management functions and activities will be marked up with an indication of the current local status (maturity) of each and the proposed enhancement as part of this project. A similar list of the functions based on a view of the local use of Athene applications will also be generated.
The following breakdown of work is typically proposed for the stages of this project:
Stage 1: Develop relevant framework – typically a 20 day study
Stage 2: Develop interfaces to Systems Development, QA, test lab etc
Stage 3: Develop Capacity Management and liaison with Business and Service functions.
Stage 4: Introduce Audit within service Review using outputs from Stages 1-3
To provide a schedule of agreed interviewees and proof reading of reports and draft papers.
